Baby Surprise Jacket

Have you been knitting for a while?  Are you just starting your knitting journey?  Well, maybe you’ve come across Elizabeth Zimmerman’s iconic Baby Surprise Jacket.  You’ve even looked at the patter but it seemed too complex.  Here’s your chance to get the BSJ done to perfection

In the class we tackle this pattern in logical sections:

You won’t lose your way with the section approach in the class.  At the end comes the magical foldup which finishes this adorable, very baby wearable sweater.

Skills Needed:  Cast on, Knit Stitch

Materials:

  • Pattern:  Elizabeth Zimmermann’s A – B – C – SJ.  From Schoolhouse Press

  • Yarn:  Different weight yarns will yield different sizes.  I suggest you start with worsted weight for your first one.  About 600 yards total.  If you want to make the stripes of the classic BSJ get 3 contrasting, solid colors

  • Needles:  1 40“ cable needle, US Size 8 if using worsted weight yarn

  • Accessories:

    1. 100 – 200 yards scrap yarn, thinner and contrasting to your working yarn

    2. Locking ring markers  (I prefer the bulb kind)

    3. Row counter

    4. Scissors

    5. Darning needle
